A bit of reggae to start the weekend, and a great compilation that keeps me moving in the kitchen.

'Sweets For My Sweets' by C.J Lewis popped in my head this morning and was the main reason why I chose the album. A weird song to start the day, but actually reminded me of the walk back from secondary school; I used to stop at the corner shop to rent a dvd, and buy a few sweets.

When arriving back home I would check to see what curry my mum had left me.

Okra curry in the pot... I was disappointed, but was told all beautiful women have them in their diets. I always closed my eyes when eating a teaspoon of the slimy weird looking green things, hoping my skin would be like a goddess when I opened them.

When I saw them going for a £1 in Dalston I had to buy a bowl, supermarkets pack them in 175g and sell them for £2 - £3. What a rip off! Yes you should invest in good food, but please I could whip up a salad from my back garden for less.

Enough of rant.. here is the recipe, cooked while listening to Shaggy...where is he now? He comes back every 10 years, makes a hot shot, then goes on a really long holiday.

Not bad.

Recipe to serve 2.

You will need:
mini blender

Ingredients:

300g okra
2 cloves garlic
2cm fresh ginger
2 whole green small chilli's
1 tsp turmeric
1 tsp garam masala
1 tsp chilli powder
1 small chopped onion
2 large sweet potatoe peeled and sliced thickly
6 cherry tomatoes halved
50g pomegranate seeds
half a tsp of honey
vegetable oil

Method:

: Using a mini blender or a strong arm, blend the garlic, ginger and green chilli's. This should look like a green paste. Wash the blender.

: Fry onions in a small amount of vegetable oil until they are soft

: Add the okra with a teaspoon of the green paste, keep on a low heat and stir.

: Boil the sweet potatoes

: Add the tomatoes to the okra, with the turmeric, chilli and garam masala powder.

: Add a small cup of water (20ml) so the okra doesn't dry out

: Meanwhile put pomegranate and honey in blender and whizz until most of the seeds have gone. Put a tea strainer over a cup and sieve sauce.

: Drain sweet potatoes and season. Turn off okra and add a few salt flakes

< Serve okra with coriander, and drizzle sauce over sweet potatoes.

Sounds random but works.
