On my way to work I noticed parent's racing to the school gates, and started to imagine teachers nervously getting ready for the new wave of little bodies that will enter their sparkling classroom.
It's back to school week, and finally back to the routine until next summer!
For many, this will be your average working week, getting up grabbing an apple and stopping off for a coffee before you sit down at your desk, but for most kids its a big step into a new environment.
No more waking up at 'doesn't matter O clock' and watching Nicklodeon, well maybe on the weekend!
I have been lucky and worked 3 out of the 6 weeks, and relieved that the kids are back to school, so I can get back to the normal work routine.
I made a quick crumble for breakfast pudding... if that even exists.
▶ Recipe to serve 4
Ingredients:
300g crumble cereal
1 Bramley cooking apple, peeled and chopped in chunks
1 teaspoon of mixed spice
few dollops of chunky marmalade
rhubarb yoghurt to serve
50g soft butter
You will need:
A small loaf pan (2 inches deep)
Method:
Preheat the oven to 190°c
: rub in the butter with the cereal
: grease the loaf pan
: add the apple, mixed spice and 2 teaspoons of water
: pour the crumble all over the apples, if you like more fruit then don't use all the crumble mixture, but if you like a thick crumble topping, go crazy.
: maybe pick out the raisins at the top of the mixture, otherwise they will burn.
: space out three dessertspoons of the marmalade
< bake for 15 -20 minutes.
Lovely served warm with rhubarb yoghurt.
Next Time:
⤵ Might add fresh rhubarb with the apples
